Sunday Finds + 3 Things I Thought About Last Week
2022 Predictions and Top 10 Episodes from 2021
(Apologies for missing last week, I was on vacation. I hope to get these out in a consistent manner almost every week in 2022)
3 things to help grow the show in 2022:
With it being the start of the new year and no news really happening in between Christmas and New Years Day, I thought I’d share three new things we are (hopefully) doing in 2022 to help grow Chit Chat Money. Our goal is to get over 1 million listens this year, which would be around double our numbers from 2021. If you’re a fan of the show and have any suggestions on how we can grow, feel free to ping me with your thoughts. Thank you for tuning in this year!
Growing this newsletter substantially. Up until now, I’ve half-assed our Sunday newsletter and just posted links in the same format with no actual writing. I changed that towards the end of 2022, and now do the “3 Thoughts From the Week” to hopefully make the newsletter more engaging and fun to read. This newsletter currently has around 550 subs, so I think a goal of getting over 1,000 would go a long way in helping our show in the next year. In the long run, I’d love to get 10k subscribers to this thing.
Consistently putting out video clips on Twitter and just being more active on there. Our biggest asset for the show is the Chit Chat Money Twitter account, which has just shy of 11k followers. This has come as a bit of a surprise to us, as we really only use it to tweet out the show link twice a week. In 2022, we plan to change that. Our big goal is to post a consistent amount of video clips from episodes, as those types of posts seem to have the best chance to go viral (which will hopefully attract more listeners to the show). We also plan on doing more threads, polls for upcoming Not So Deep Dives, and other things to liven up the Twitter account. By this time next year I hope the Twitter account has 20k followers, which would be slightly less than double from where it is now.
Finding a way to advertise with a good ROI. How do you do paid marketing for a podcast? I truly have no idea. Now that we have a little bit of money in the bank, we thought it would be smart to try and do some paid marketing to help try and grow our audience. Our first thought was to use Spotify’s new ad marketplace to advertise on podcasts, but they do not allow 3rd-party podcasts to advertise yet so we’re out of luck there. Besides that, we have drawn a blank on how to best advertise the show (we tried social media marketing briefly but have found it gets terrible results). By the end of 2022, my goal is to find a sustainable way to advertise Chit Chat Money, which means finding a medium/format with an acceptable return on investment (ROI). Since the podcast has minimal production costs, we should start generating a healthy amount of cash as the show continues to grow. If we can find an advertising medium that works, we could possibly accelerate this growth while also maintaining profitability.
See you next week,
Brett
